One of the greatest ways to make money online on the internet is blogging. What is blogging? Blogging is something so simple that it defies definition. It is simple writing about anything that interests you, an event, a product, a technology or a situation.
The most important thing in blogging is to make your content interesting and get people to follow your blog. This allows you to earn a decent income. Working as a blogger is also a great way to find business partnership. Once you have established an online business as a blogger, you will find company partners and establish a company partnership online.
A lot of people are now trying to make money blogging as a way to supplement their current income or craft a new and brave career online. Salaries for bloggers vary widely. This report from Glassdoor shows ranges from $19K to $79K a year for the title “blogger,” while other sources say the 14% of bloggers who earn a salary make, on average, $24K a year (or $33K for corporate bloggers). Likewise, freelance bloggers can make anything from under $10 a post to $100 or more for a relatively short post.
The first thing to do in blogging is to decide what you will want your blog to be about. If you are an avid business book reader, why not blog about business books? If you love everything about Microsoft, why not dedicate your blog to Microsoft and whatever the company does? If you are obsessed with politics, why not blog about it?
Making money through blogging requires a carefully thought out topic. If you have an existing blog with a small audience, be honest when considering whether the topic has broad appeal that isn’t already covered by other established bloggers. If it does, great! Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with starting a second blog that will be more successful in attracting an audience.
As for running your own blog, a survey of 1,000 bloggers by Blogging.com in 2012 found that 17% are able to sustain their lifestyle or support their family with their blogs, while 81% never make even $100 from blogging. The other 2% spend less than 2 hours a day blogging but make more than $150K (Tim Ferriss types).
The point is, you should blog about what interests you the most. That’s the only way to get people to read your blog and earn a loyal followership.
Once you get a committed group of readers who regularly visit your blog, your chances of earning a good passive income from it are so much higher.
You can make money from your by joining an affiliate marketing network or a CPC (Cost Per Click) ad network such as Google AdSense. Other networks you may consider are AdClickMedia, Twelvefold Media, and SiteScout. You can sell your own products and services on your blog as well.
Another survey, this one of 1,500 ProBlogger readers who said they’re trying to make money by blogging, found that 9% make between $1,000 and $10,000 a month and 4% make over $10,000 a month. But the vast majority makes less than $3.50 per day. (Most of these were blogs less than two years old, though.)
Advantages of Blogging
The big advantage of blogging is that anybody can do it, and it’s very easy to get started. You just have to write engagingly and post regularly on your topic. Getting started with blogging is a simple matter of joining WordPress – which is as easy as it gets. In fact, the entire set up required for blogging – getting a web hosting account, buying a domain and so on costs you less than $20! It is a ridiculously low investment online business, and the rewards are quite impressive, if your blog gets a bit of traction.
Disadvantages of Blogging
Well, blogging is no Get Rick Quick scheme. You will have to deal with a lot of competition and fight for internet eyeballs, so to speak. It takes a year of consistent writing before you earn any real money with it. You are likely to get frustrated at times, and many just give up. You must create top class content if you want people to subscribe to your blog. You may have to spend a lot getting freelance writers to write your content for you if you lack the time to do so yourself – so blogging is not completely free of expenses.
How Much Money Can You Make from Blogging?
Well – heard of Arianna Huffington? She was a single mother who created a blog, huffingtonpost.com and sold it 6 years later to AOL for $315 million! Wow! That is of course, the most successful story in the history of blogging, but there are a plenty of bloggers who earn six figure incomes from Google AdSense.
There are others who draw $10,000 a month from affiliate marketing. It is clearly possible to earn a lot of money from blogging, but there are so many things you have to do right before that happens. But a successful blog can get you a nice passive income and provide for you in your retirement.
